Saxon Shore Way

28/3/2014 - Currently walking the Saxon Shore Way - 160 miles from Gravesend around the Kent Coast. First walked it on my walk around the coast of Britain. It is good to see the places again and how little has changed. Saw avocets, shelduck, curlew and oystercatchers today. Now reached Herne Bay - the true start of the coast from London and the Thames. Now pressing on to Sandwich, Dover and Hastings. Lovely weather -T shirt and shorts!!! Happy walking! John.

December walks

Another great walk from Dartford along the Thames to Greenwich - 24 miles. Made it as the sun set. Greenwich was busy with fairy lights and the indoor market was full of circular balls of lights - looked great.

7/12/2013 - Caught the bus to Buntingford and did a 22 mile walk to Mill End, Anstey, Buckland, Cotterill, Throcking and back to Buntingford...beautiful weather, sun shining, and reached Buntingford as the light faded...another great day in Hertfordshire - saw no other walkers!!!

Darent ValleyPath

Last weekend - Saturday November 24th 2013 - did this beautiful walk in Kent, from Sevenoaks to Dartford - 18 miles. Somehow I had missed this London area walk! The sun shone as I walked near and beside the River Darent. En route passing several attrative scenic villages including Shoreham. The path also crosses the North Downs Way/Pilgrims Way and passes the gatehouse of Lullington Castle. I reached Dartford station as night fell.

On the following Saturday - November 3oth - I was back in Dartford to continue on and walked 24 miles to Greenwich.

September walk activities

30/31st. August  2013 - back in the Peak District! Just walked the 30 mile Cal-Der-Went Walk from Horbury Bridge, Wakefield to Ladybower Reservoir. A lovely walk in fine weather and no walkers! I first walked it in 1980 leading a party of eight. This is for a new book of the walk originally created by Geoffrey Carr in 1978. The book will be out in mid October 2013!

September 2013 - Busy walking the Grand Union Canal from Brentford/River Thames to Birmingham - 140 miles. Now reached Braunston - 90 miles - where the Oxford Canal branches off to Oxford and the Thames.

WEY NAVIGATION

Hi,
Did a lovely walk on Saturday - 13th. April 2013 - walking the whole length of the River Wey Navigation from Shepperton to Godmalding - 23 1/2 miles. All for a new challenge and canal walk book. Fine and sunny at first then rain and rather wet at the end....such is the joy of walking! A unique navigation full of unusual features.
Happy walking,
John
