The biggest and most comprehensive short circular walks in the Peak District by it's greatest walker/author.
With more than 9,000 public rights of way in Derbyshire, totalling more than 3,000 miles, there is endless scope to explore the county on foot. Over the years I have now walked them all, many countless times! The Peak District is an extraordinarily rich area of countryside, containing a remarkable diversity of scenery and history. My aim has been to select fifteen walks of between 3 and 6 miles long, which together illustrates the variety of walking to be found in the area. This revised and enlarged edition I have added two new walks, I did recently, to complete my story.
All the walks are new ones, and stem from the requests for more short walks by the many who have walked my earlier short walk guides. Each walk starts from a car park and follows rights of way around a particular scenic area. Some of the paths are little used, but I hope this encourages their use for they do bring you to good vantage points. All the walks include somewhere for refreshments, and in the main there is a local pub; helping to make the two-hour outing a more enjoyable stroll in the countryside. One walk does have four pubs, and it is possible to visit all during opening hours!
I have endeavoured to be as accurate as possible with the walking instructions and maps, but it is useful to carry the appropriate Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 Outdoor Explorer map with you, as detailed. I do hope these walks will give you endless pleasure, and that you will follow in my footsteps around, through, and over some of the finest walking terrain in Britain.
